Chrome dev gets rudimentary HTML5 geolocation

In an update to the development build of Chrome, Google on Thursday introduced a rough version of the native HTML5 geolocation API. Available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, Google Chrome dev 5.0.342.1 comes with the geolocation API that Mozilla has supported since it introduced it in last summer's Firefox 3.5.

Geolocation comes to Chrome dev, but needs a tweak to work.

However, geolocation in Chrome is turned off by default. To activate it, users must go to their Chrome shortcut and add --enable-geolocation to the end of the target line, below the Shortcut tab. To test if it's working, you can go to http://www.browsergeolocation.com. If the browser asks for you to approve sending your location data, you know it's working.

I found that on Windows 7, launching Chrome from the taskbar did not allow it to recognize the geolocation activation command. It worked fine, though, when launched from the Start menu.

This update to Chrome dev also includes a few other minor improvements, mostly to the Mac and Linux versions. Along with the geolocation support, users on those platforms should look improved plug-in stability and better implementation of autofill preferences. Mac users only should look favicons in the history menu, and HTML5 databases have been added to the cookie manager. The full list of changes can be read here.

Opera Mini now on Windows Mobile. Yeah, you read that right

As if keeping the differences straight between Opera's Mobile and Mini browsers weren't tricky enough already, Opera has added another twist by releasing Opera Mini 5 beta for Windows phones, a mobile platform that has previously only run the Opera Mobile app.

Until now, Opera's mobile browsers boiled down to this: Opera Mini (stable|beta) is the proxy browser for Java-based phones that feeds Web content through Opera's servers. And Opera Mobile (stable|beta), is the full Web experience for Symbian and Windows phones that's written with Web code.

The "Mini" browser doesn't render Web sites as faithfully as Opera Mobile's true Web client (and it still won't for Windows phones) but it does return key content faster.

We loaded CNET.com and other graphics-heavy sites using both Opera Mobile 10 beta 2 and the brand-new Opera Mini 5 beta on an HTC Touch Diamond 2 running Windows Mobile 6.5 (got every that?). Opera Mobile took more than 15 seconds to load over Wi-Fi, but it rendered the page in desktop view and displayed CNET's Flash. Opera Mini loaded CNET's mobile-optimized site in a fraction of the time, but we missed out on the landing page.

Introducing Opera Mini for Windows phones is a big deal. First, Opera had to write a separate version of Opera Mini that runs on Windows phones using the compatible C-based programming language instead of Java (which is incompatible or inconsistent, depending on the phone model). Second, making a speedier browser for a platform that's already capable of running its possess full Web browser hints that for many, Opera Mobile wasn't quick enough.

Not that Opera Mobile isn't already equipped with a way to turn on the gas. The Opera Turbo compression engine (also found in Opera's desktop browser) can hasten page-load times while (knowingly) sacrificing image clarity. But Opera Software claims that running Mini on Windows Mobile can compress traffic by up to 90 percent, making pages load faster still.

As far as the feature sets go, the latest beta versions of Mini and Mobile share an identical interface that includes tabbed browsing and Opera's Speed Dial start screen (video tour). According to Opera, the company's goal is not to cannibalize Opera Mobile with Opera Mini 5 beta, but software makers tend to follow users' leads when the tide turns for unused products. What we're banking on is for browser technology to improve enough to make Opera Mobile, and not Mini, the better choice for Opera loyalists on any mobile platform.

The presence of Opera Mini on a Windows phone presents at least a short-term answer to the ever-important question of speed. It's telling us that a standalone mobile browser that's quick enough to deliver the Web without a proxy server go-between isn't here yet.

By trouble credit I mean a hospital bill which I'm still being pursued by collectors even though a financial rep at the hospital told me I could and most likely would receive help with the charges. The latter was not truly fair as I had bought a 1992 Dodge (tiny truck) which less than 2 hours after started smoking and caught flame as headed toward El Dorado, KS to receive on turnpike to receive to work, cause that's before I'd quit. The dealership said that not able to use lemon law nor were liable for the vehicle malfunction, thus why they talked me and my uncle into receive another one from them. Then I have my bank accounts which have many issues themselves. Bank of America is a charge off due to unauthorize use of card, due to being stolen, and not know it before wrote checks and then when did find out another issue happened and thus the cops told me that the only thing would receive is 460 or little more as restution and BOA said that I'd been responsible as when the card happened to be took before had not noticed until activity not made by me happened and I'd only canceled and got another card since thought misplace or lost it, however. That was not the case and it happened be stolen by people who I just met and was ignorant in trying to help but was scammed and used. Then US Bank tricked me and caused me to have a check account in Topeka, Ks during summer 2008 thus when used my card and thought was savings debit card charged me fees when used it at places like turnpike, comic store, and few more places when balance was low. Thus not find out until the balance was negative and getting collection calls. I'd not have job yet and was attending Washburn University full time, below Federal Aid and GI Bill, I also used Check Into Cash payday loans and Loan Max to help pay some fees, college, and more. I was successful for awhile until lost my job, was not able to enroll in college again due to hold, and lost car to loan max cause not able to pay of the loan from no money anymore. Thus during Fall 2009 Washburn University was therefore forced into forcing me out of the campus and if not had friends here since been here, I'd been on road or dead due to failure of not able to maintain proper health and security. I'm currently in need of loan or way to help me receive money in legal methods that will help me find stable home or allow me income for dealing with HUD Shelter Plus Care Program (finds homeless people homes). To allow me chance to be able to fully and properly apply for career that I want, such as for now a legal researcher or secretary until receive BLS or other BA degree then become a Paralegal and leave it at that since not want more money to owe so not become a lawyer. Voting Question: How do you know if you used your car as collateral for a payday loan?

When you fill out paperwork for the payday loan you put on the paperwork (or at least that is the way it used to be) your car - make model license dish, etc. So I just wondered if that is using your car for collateral or if they have somewhere in tiny print that most people do not look at that you are using it for collateral and they can arrive receive it. Someone said earlier the only way they can repo your car is if you used it for collateral. I don't know who it would be that would be coming to repo my car but my mom got a call on her cell phone from someone acting as if they were talking to someone else but the conversation was recorded on her vm stating they could pick the car up at my moms address tonight if they can receive the order in ontime. I just can't figure out who it could be. My car payment is on time. And if I owe a payday loan it was from over 3 or 4 years ago....and I don't know who the company is now (look i had surgery and got real sick) so it was left go for awhile and I can't remember the name, so I had to wonder if it were them. Voting Question: In a community property state....?

Can a husband/wife legally receive a payday loan online in the other one's name? Or, let's say, just to generalize it, can a husband or wife purchase something in a community property state and put it in the other's name? I am asking because my jack*** ex did that very thing and I want to know if I can be held liable for something he did without my knowledge, in my name. Resolved Question: Petty Theft in South Dakota...HELP!?

Ok, I had 2 checks returned for insufficient funds, a check for $16.24, and a check for $100.00. The money was in the account at the time I wrote them, HOWEVER a payday loan I forgot about came through my account and wiped it out, which is why these 2 checks were returned. Well being stupid I never made good on them, here 5 months later, I got a warrant for my arrest, They called me and I turned myself in, and posted bond, didnt spend anytime in the cell, just got processed. I have court Monday March 8th 2010. Its charged as Petty theft for insufficient funds for less than $400. A misdemeanor. This is my first offense, Im 24 years old, and I have ZERO criminal history, not even a speeding ticket. Do you think I'll receive jail time??? Or do I need to cease worrying about that? Im facing up to a $500 fine and/or 30 days in jail, thats maximum possible...Please Give me your Advice. This was stupid and I just want to receive this cleared up now!

Last time I was in Japan was when the economy was flourishing and the Japanese were super savers. They spend money on luxury goods, took vacations yet saved a huge chunk money.
